As a wife I think I worry too much – right? Or so it was confirmed again last night. Living with Curt as a helicopter pilot has been tense at times. In the Army he flew border patrol between unfriendly countries, at Fort Rucker and Pensacola he put his life in the hands of students everyday as an Instructor Pilot and proceeded that with 12 years of flying search and rescue and drug interdiction for the Coast Guard. I remember him telling me of one drug bust down in the Caribbean and I said flippantly, “That sounds like Miami Vice”. He said, “That’s what it’s like except they have guns and we don’t.” My response – OK, I can’t handle anymore stories! With time, the nightmares I had began to subside. Then out of nowhere came another one last night. Curt had called around midnight and said the helicopter had maintenance problems and he’d be late getting back to Halo. I don’t know about you, but I don’t even like driving my car when it has maintenance problems. I guess that’s what I went to bed thinking – bad thinking on my part. Although I didn’t sleep well – Curt did make it home safe and sound this morning. However, he’s back at work and on his way to San Antonio to deliver a patient. I’m not going to think about all those stories and what can go wrong tonight – no, no – I’m just going to think about how he helps people in need. That he certainly does! Click here to see a little video of how Halo helps people daily.

Felt Like Fall!

What an awesome weekend in Pennsylvania! The retreat was incredible. I fell in love with the ladies and it was so hard to leave my new friends. The weather was absolutely gorgeous. We stayed at Camp Judson right on Lake Erie. If I tried to describe how beautiful this place was I could not do it justice. Laura and I arrived there Friday just in time to begin the weekend. (She said traveling with me was like traveling with Jerry Lewis -- I'm not quite sure what to make of that? ha) I went to bed that night around 11pm. It was so relaxing as I laid there all snuggled in bed with the window open. I fell asleep listening to the waves lap up against the shore of Lake Erie as the orange, red, brown, and green leaves rustled in the wind. It was around 75 during the day and 50's at night, definitely a nice break from the 90 degree weather in Corpus. Saturday was just as gorgeous. It was predicted to rain all day, but God blessed us with absolutely incredible weather. The day was filled with encouragement; as we shared, laughed and got to know one another even better. As we left the camp that night, I knew I was leaving precious new friends behind. I am so thankful for our modern conveniences of cell phones, computers and the web – I hope we can use these to stay in touch. I arrived home Sunday night around 11pm and I do have to say – it was a great feeling to be back with family!! To my prayer partners -- thanks for the prayers. God worked in wonderful ways. I’ll try to upload some PA pictures soon.

Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!

The thought of speaking has been rolling around in my head this week as I prepare for a conference in Pennsylvania. It just makes me giggle that God would use me in this way. I rejoice in the fact that somehow He actually got me to this point. I can remember back to school days and speaking anything in front of people was something I feared with all my shaking body. Now, put me up with a team of cheerleaders and I was good to go. But to speak with everyone looking at you – no way, not me!!! I’m so thankful God didn’t listen to me. Funny, he didn’t listen to Moses either!

In my devotional time this morning, I was convicted once more by the responsibility we have over our words and how we speak. 1 Timothy 1:5 “The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Some have wandered away from these and turned to meaningless talk. They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.” Dear Lord, let me speak only Your truths and forget the meaningless chatter. Keep my heart pure, my conscience clear, and my faith sincere. AMEN!!!

On a lighter note: Pennsylvania is COLD! Last January I did 4 degree weather in Indianapolis without a heavy coat. Can you say BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR? People there thought I was nuts. I just said “Hey, I’m from South Texas!” I’m prepared this time - I’ve got a coat and boots. Oh WOW, my heart is pounding. Can’t wait to see Lake Erie. Can’t wait to meet these awesome ladies. Can’t wait to be there. And most of all – I can’t wait to see what God has in store!!!

Such an original!

It’s been a wild week, but OH so fun! Blake was in the Men of Midway contest Tuesday evening and he asked Lindsey to be his escort. Even though I am a little prejudice (OK- a lot!), I have to say they were the cutest! I was certainly a proud mom. Men of Midway is like a beauty pageant, but for the top 20 Jr. and Sr. guys whose escorts raised the most donations for a certain cause. The pageant is just a HOOT. The guys clown around and just have fun (certainly different from a “real” beauty pageant). You leave there with your sides aching from so much laughter. Blake did awesome. I think he had the best talent. He played guitar and sang. Check him out here. Blake made the Top 12. The Top 12 will be featured in a Men of Midway calendar! It will be a hot one coming out in November. The top 12 participated in an interview process where Blake was posed the question “If you were President, what would you like to see?” His answer – truly a classic! World Peace!!! He is such an original – gotta love him!!!
